The Sacred Ruins

Chapter 414: The World Is No Longer the Same

The bamboo raft carried Chu Feng and Lin Naoi over the jade sea.

The two mentioned the past and discussed the present. Their parting wasn’t that dreary but was instead warm, gentle, and calm.

Some things didn’t require a lot of thinking. Many years later, the trajectories of their lives would’ve long since become very different.

Chu Feng raised his head and imprinted the scenes into his heart. In the years to follow, he would likely get married and have children. At that time, how would Lin Naoi be doing on the distant starry shore?

He shook his head at the thought of this.

The bamboo raft split the waters apart as it returned to Mount Lao.

At this time, Deity Biomedicals wasn’t calm and the higher-ups were all in shock. The complete annihilation of the Imperial Dynasty of evolvers in the depths of Mount Lao had a huge impact on them.

Meanwhile, the world outside was also in a mess. Extraterrestrials were constantly crossing over via the starry paths from various famed mountains. A large portion of them met their ends but some managed to cross over successfully.

Chu Feng paid no attention to these matters because he was sending Lin Naoi off on her journey.

The time went by very quickly, and soon, the moon was high in the night sky. Atop a spiritual peak on Mount Lao, a silvery pine tree was glowing with light and Lin Naoi was standing before it.

Chu Feng was gazing from a certain distance behind her.

Enshrouded by the misty moonlight, she seemed rather fleeting and ephemeral.

"Farewell!" Lin Naoi glanced at Chu Feng.

"Take care!" Chu Feng watched fixedly as she left.

A great number of runes emerged upon the precipice as a mysterious star passage opened up. It emitted a faint light as it connected to an unknown place.

Lin Naoi’s energy pagoda appeared and vibrated with a buzz. She stepped onto the weakly illuminated passage and aura soon grew indistinct.

She waved and then left just like that.

Swoosh!

A clear light flickered. The whole mountain became extremely brilliant as it seemingly drew in all the starlight and moonlight in the sky.

But the place soon became dark and deathly still.

The place below the pine tree was restored to its previous state.

Chu Feng stood there for very long before turning back. There he saw Lin Naoi parents standing nearby. They had arrived quite some time ago.

He nodded lightly in greeting.

"If the star passage hasn’t been broken and is still useable, it will appear again at dawn," said father Lin.

Lin Naoi’s parents possessed a star stone. If the path were to appear once again, they would be able to utilize this stone to walk in and follow Lin Naoi. This was the plan they agreed upon much earlier.

That was the only star stone, and with it, one could walk onto the star passage.

In the end, Lin Naoi still had things she couldn’t put down despite being so calm.

Her parents seemed tranquil, but in fact were quite nervous. They were afraid the passage had been broken and that Lin Naoi had encountered some danger.

At dawn, the star passage appeared once again under the silver pine!

At that moment, Lin Naoi’s father and mother revealed delighted expressions. They were also full of disappointment because there were too many things in this world they were reluctant to part with. In the end, however, they decided to follow their daughter on this road.

"Goodbye!"

Chu Feng waved towards them and then turned to leave.

Behind him, the last bit of starlight flickered. Drawing upon the powers of the stars in the sky, the two soon disappeared.

At the same moment, the silver pine withered and precipice silently turned to dust. The whole mountain then shortened significantly and the thousand-year-old Taoist temple also crumbled away.

The changes were all silent.

Chu Feng left Mount Lao directly without further delay.

When the sun rose high, Chu Feng was already thousands of kilometers away. He switched on the communicator the had turned off for some time and was immediately bombarded with various messages.

He glanced through them but didn’t manage to reply to everyone.

He sighed as he swiped over the call history. A certain person in that list would no longer be reachable from now on and would only remain as a fond memory.

Afterwards, the communicator rang continuously—the group of demons from Mount Kunlun were searching for him.

"Brother, where are you?"

They told him that a significant number of extraterrestrials had crossed over and were appearing in every region. The group of great demons had decided to abandon Mount Kunlun.

They planned to go into hiding and avoid wading into the heart of this struggle. They didn’t want to engage in a bitter conflict.

Chu Feng looked up at the sky after hearing this. This world had truly changed. There was no telling how many people were rushing over from other star systems. Batches of them had already entered earth’s space.

But the sky was the same sky and the earth was the same earth. The atmosphere was still clear and clean, but the trajectory of their destinies had already changed.

Even the group of great demons from Kunlun had come to accept this fact and were willing to leave their holy land. This couldn’t be considered a submission or compromise. Everything was for survival.

"Brother, what are your plans?" The Snow Leopard King asked through the communicator. The group of demons wanted to see him because they still had no idea where to go after leaving Kunlun.

Presently, they were only going into hiding and had no plans to fight for famed mountains.

"Me? I’ll eat, sleep and beat up Doudou!" Chu Feng replied. [1]

"Wha?"

The group of great demons was dumbfounded.

Even the old llama was no longer reciting Buddha’s name. He peered through the communicator with a face full of question marks.

"That’s not right, yes, I meant eat, sleep, and beat up extraterrestrials!" Chu Feng corrected.

"Fight extraterrestrials? Didn’t sister-in-law tell you to hide and not appear for some time?" the Horse King asked in puzzlement.

Chu Feng said, "Mn, fine, let’s lay low. But I just don’t feel good when I see these extraterrestrials. Why should we hide as soon as they arrive? And we even have to give away our famed mountains."

"Wait, this was your idea! You said we should pull out from the famed mountains at first to avoid a bloody conflict. You don’t seem to be in your right mind. Tell us where you are and we’ll all gather there." The Snow Leopard King’s group cried out.

At this moment, Chu Feng was indeed feeling upset. First, it was Yellow Ox, the black yak, and the gang who had left. There was no telling whether or not they would return alive from Mount Eternal. Now Lin Naoi was also leaving for a faraway land and the great demons of Kunlun were forced to abandon Mount Kunlun.

In the end, all of this was due to these descenders. With the arrival of these extraterrestrials, it could be speculated that the natives of the earth would fall under worse situations. This was especially true of evolvers. Their futures were extremely bleak.

Even now, he had already sensed some difference along the way. It seemed as if the entire world had changed.

He would see news of descenders everywhere he casually looked. It had only been two days but the world was restless and the entities on the famed mountains were all anxious.

"Chu Feng, speak. Where are you?" The Horse King’s loud voice came through from the other end of the communicator. That was because he didn’t hear Chu Feng’s reply.

"Wait, I think I see some extraterrestrials. Let me go and beat them up before continuing this situation!" Chu Feng stared fixedly at the area before him and ended the call like that.

Thousands of kilometers away, the group of great demons was petrified. What was this brother up to? Was he going to proactively attack the extraterrestrials?

"Dammit!"

"Right now, the extraterrestrials are like dumplings. Pot after pot of them are popping out of the famed mountains. Is our brother going to stir up more trouble?!"

"Hello?! hello?!"

The group of great demons was dumbfounded. They shouted into the communicator but found that the line had been disconnected.

What’s wrong with this brother? Didn’t we agree to lie low and hide? How come he’s off to pick a fight with extraterrestrials on his own.

"Is he really going to eat, sleep, and beat up Doudou, no, I mean extraterrestrials?!" Some demons suspected this.

In front of him, a number of extraterrestrials were walking out from a mountainous terrain. And from the looks of it, they weren’t weak at all. They were currently discussing the miserable situation at Mount Lao where an entire evolver’s dynasty was annihilated. They also mentioned Chu Feng’s name.

In the end, Chu Feng felt extremely upset and charged forth immediately.

Bang, bang, bang...

He went up and delivered a big fat beating. He didn’t actually kill them, however, and only beat them black and blue.

The group of extraterrestrials roared in fury. They had taken great risks to walk out of the folded spaces but were actually beaten up without provoking anyone.

They noticed that this was a native and not someone who had come from the star systems like them.

But wasn’t it said that the land had withered and that there were no powerful evolvers?

Roar, roar, roar!

The group roared loudly because they didn’t know earth’s language just yet. They bellowed in order to express their anger as they retaliated furiously but were beaten up quite badly in the end.

"Extraterrestrials, what are you crying about? You’re just asking for a beating!" Chu Feng added more force to his blows.

Not every descender was as powerful as the imperial prince. In fact, most of those who had successfully crossed over were in the shackled realm. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have survived.

This group wasn’t actually weak but were suppressed by Chu Feng all the same and took a beating.

In the distance, some passers-by who witnessed this scene were astonished. Wasn’t this Chu Feng? He was... fighting extraterrestrials? Or rather, he was beating them up.

"Who are you? Why are you attacking us?" The extraterrestrials were indignant as they contacted him telepathically. They had been beaten up until their faces were swollen like pigs but the other party didn’t kill them.

"I’m that Chu Feng you’re talking about. I just feel upset after seeing you guys and wanted to beat someone up!"

The group of extraterrestrials: "#!%..."

They wanted to curse at their damned luck. They had already heard about this outrageous native. How could they meet him just after emerging?!

The people on the road were speechless. The current situation seemed as if Chu Feng had attacked them proactively. The bystanders were shocked quite a bit.

The incident was then spread out on the internet and shocked everyone.

Currently, the earth was changing and many extraterrestrials were coming in. Yet, this Chu Feng dared to act this way? He was too absurdly fierce!

This was especially true of how he called the extraterrestrials: alien kids!

Many people were dumbfounded. This man was simply too demonic and even dared to do such a thing.

Many people didn’t believe this at first.

After beating up this group, Chu Feng left right away, leaving the extraterrestrials lying stiffly on the ground with sullen expressions.

But this group was also quite convinced. After their bout of anger, they concluded that it was just their bad luck. Who told them to talk about that native and get overheard? This man was too odd and couldn’t be provoked!

In truth, this wasn’t the only case. Chu Feng beat up several groups of descenders along the way and let none of them pass by. All of them were beaten up.

Any other person would stay away if they encountered descenders, but Chu Feng was in a bad mood. He would immediately charge over after seeing them walking out from the mountains.

Any evolver from a different star who treated him with disrespect would be beaten up badly!

Although it sounded reasonable, it was more like a deliberate fraud. Several groups of extraterrestrials along the way were beaten up quite badly.

Not to mention ordinary people, even those like Xiong Kun, Hu Sheng, Jiang Luoshen, and Ouyang Qing were stunned and dumbfounded.

The group of great demons on Kunlun were also flabbergasted after hearing of this. Was he really going to eat, sleep, and beat up extraterrestrials?!

As Chu Feng was stirring up trouble along the way, something unexpected happened. Some outer realm entities who had come out of the mountains began to express their goodwill towards Chu Feng.

"Chu Feng, our saintess invites you!" An extraterrestrial expert came to find him to extend an invitation.

"Saintess? Has such an entity arrived?!"

"Erm, I say, brother Chu Feng, this... isn’t quite appropriate, is it?" The outer-realm entity smiled insincerely.

...

[1] This is from a popular internet joke (which isn’t really that funny, but nonetheless...): A reporter interviewed a group of penguins about what they do each they. The entire group gave the same answer "We eat, sleep and beat up Doudou"—the whole group except that one last penguin who answered, "I eat and sleep". So the curious reporter asked, "Don’t you beat up Doudou?" at which point the penguin replied, "I’m Doudou."
